Amanda Jane Dunn was born February 16, 1850 in Standing Stone Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania to Nelson Dunn (1822-1904) and Julia A. Jennings (1828-1918). The family later moved to the Fairview area of Burlington.

Amanda married Henry C. Spencer (1844-1929) on June 23, 1867 at the bride's home.
