Diana Shaver (1827-1910)

Diana Shaver was born 15 Mar 1827 in Groton or North Lansing, Tompkins, New York. She was the daughter of Benjamin Shaver (1777-1852) and Mary Louder (1776-1864). She married John Van Marter about 1847.

John was the son of Gilbert Van Marter. He was born in 1826 at Lodi, Seneca County, New York. The family moved to Venice, Cayuga County, New York and later lived in Auburn (same county). Diana was living at 1-1/2 Lawton Avenue in 1906 according to the Auburn city directory (p. 390).

She died Thursday, April 7, 1910 in Auburn, Cayuga County, New York.[1] She was buried at Indian Mound Cemetery in Moravia, Cayuga County, New York.

Albert B. Van Marter

Albert was born at Groton on 15 Jan 1848. He was living in Moravia, New York in 1911 and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Moravia. Albert married Emma A. Miller (20 Aug 1848 - 11 Mar 1903) on 11 Jun 1873. He then married Carrie A. Brigden (17 Jun 1865).

The Auburn, NY City 1897-98 Directory (p. 420) indicates Albert lived at 6 Beach Avenue in Auburn, working as a cabinet maker. The 1906 directory for the same town shows Albert renting rooms at 41 Franklin. His occupation was wood carver.

Mary H. Van Marter

Mary was born 13 Mar 1857. She married Alpheus Hutchinson.

Edson J. Van Marter

Edson was born April 27, 1858 in Venice, Cayuga County, New York. He married Emma Livermore, daughter of David Livermore of Berkshire (NY). She died July 12, 1880. They had:

  • Dr. Raymond Livermore (not sure why he is not a "Van Marter")

Edson married Mary Titus and they had:

  • Lena Van Marter
  • Grove Van Marter

Reports indicate he lost his life during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

Clarence B. Van Marter

Clarence was born 6 Sep 1859.

Alida M. Van Marter

Alida was born 3 Nov 1869. She married Frederick Moss of Auburn.

Obituary

Moravia, April 11. - The remains of Mrs. Diana Van Marter, who died in Auburn, Thursday night, were brought here at 5:40 Saturday afternoon and interned i Indian Mound cemetery.
