Edward Brownell (1782-1836)
From My Research Wiki
Edward Brownell (also known as Edward Brownell, Jr.) was born Saturday, November 9, 1782 to Edward Brownell (1739-1831) and Elizabeth Brownell (1751-1834) in Pawling, Dutchess County, New York. His father is sometimes referred to by “Sr.” to help tell them apart. We do not know, however, if they referred to themselves as “junior” and “senior”.
Edward (Jr.) married Elizabeth Kane or Elizabeth Denton (1785-1821). Many researchers have suggested Elizabeth’s name was Kane but the will of Solomon Denton, a neighbor of the Brownell’s lists Edward and Elizabeth’s children as Esther, Athlanna, Clarissa, Solomon Denton, Edward S., and Egbert G. Brownell.
Children
Edward and Elizabeth had the following children:
- Esther married Lyman Spencer (1803-1898)
- Solomon Denton Brownell (1808-1893) married Susan Brinkerhof (1807-1900)
- Edward S. Brownell (1810-?)
- Athelinda Brownell (1812-?) -- or Athlanna
- Clarissa Brownell (1813-1900) married Albert Worden (1804-1883)
- Egbert G. Brownell (1818-?)
Edward was a witness to the will of Solomon Denton, written on January 14, 1813.
Edward died in Pawling on the night of Saturday, August 13, 1836 of consumption (Tuberculosis).
Elizabeth “Betsey” Brownell may have died Thursday afternoon, May 3, 1821. Frank Doherty identified this date using the inscription from an Elizabeth Brownell headstone in the Brownell Ground cemetery so it’s accuracy should be questioned (i.e. not the inscription but, rather, if he identified the right headstone).[1]
