Jeremiah M. Shay (1857-1937)
From My Research Wiki
Jeremiah Michael Shay was born July 13, 1857 in County Kerry, Ireland to Patrick Shea and Ellen Driscoll. He left Ireland for the United States as a boy. One family story says that he left when he was about 11. The story also says that his mother wrapped her shawl around him because he had no coat. Neither of these stories have been confirmed, however.
Jerry Shay got work in upstate New York. By 1880, he was living in Millport, Veteran, Chemung County, New York.[1] He was living in his in-laws home.
Jeremiah married Jane A. Grady (1859-1926) in the March 1880 in Millport.[1]
He worked for several railroads before becoming the Supervisor of Maintenance of Way with the Susquehanna and New York Railroad (S&NY RR). Jerry and Jane moved a lot as shown by the birth places of their children.
He died July 2, 1937 at the age of 69 years, 11 months, 19 days.
