Huff, born in Sussex County in the state of New Jersey aged twenty five years, and by occupation a farmer Do hereby acknowledge to have Voluntarily Reenlisted this Eighteenth day of January, 1864, to serve as a soldier in the Army of the United States of America for the period of THREE YEARS unless sooner discharged by proper authority.

John was described in the re-enlistment paper as five feet 10-1/2 inches high with blue eyes, sandy hair, and light complexion. The record was recorded January 23, 1864. His signature is on the document.

John was given permission to travel to Flatbrookville from November 5, 1864 until November 12, 1864. The document was issued at "Ward" General Hospital, Newark, New Jersey.


February 11, 1865 Discharge

Private John O. Huff of Captain Barry W. Hopper's company E of the 9th New Jersey Infantry Volunteers was discharged from the Union Army. The document lists battles in which he participated and his wound.
