John Spencer (c1638-1684)

John Spencer was born about 1638. His parentage has not really been proven beyond doubt but he has been attributed to Michael Spencer (1611-1653) and Isabel _____ (c1615-1674) who immigrated from England to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the early 1630s. If this connection is correct, then John was probably born in Lynn.

John married Susannah Griffin (c1642-1719) of East Greenwich, Connecticut in 1664 (26 years).

John was definitely living in Newport, Rhode Island by October 9, 1668.

He served as a captain in King Philip's War of 1675-1676.

John died August 31, 1684 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
