Joshua Brownell (1727-1803)
From My Research Wiki
Joshua Brownell was born December 18, 1727 in Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island to Jeremiah Brownell (1689-1756) and Deborah Burgess (1694-1779).[1]
Joshua married Mary Peckham (1730-1805)[1] in Little Compton. The family moved to Jamaica Bay, Queens, Long Island before settling in Pawling, Dutchess County, New York shortly before the American Revolution.
Joshua might have been a Loyalist. There are records that indicate a Joshua Brownell of Dutchess County, New York settled in New Brunswick. The records are unclear if this Joshua was the one that "fled to the Royal Army in April 1778" and filed a claim for his losses in Dutchess County. It might have been his son or another Joshua. The part of this story that makes it doubtful that this Joshua went to New Brunswick where he eventually died is that his wife Mary Brownell probably died in Little Compton.
