Lehigh Valley Railroad (LVRR)
From My Research Wiki
The Lehigh Valley Railroad (LVRR) was one of the railroads that enabled the northeastern United States to grow by carrying raw materials from the interior to established factories and businesses along the seaboard, and to help establish similar factories and businesses closer to those raw materials. Coal and timber were some of the most needed raw materials at the time (the 19th Century) and LVRR was in a good position to carry those materials from their sources in Pennsylvania and upstate New York.
LVRR was established in 1846 as the Delaware, Lehigh, Schuykill and Susquehanna Railroad Company. The name was changed to the Lehigh Valley Railroad in 1853.
In 1901 the Sayre Shops were completed, becoming the main service yard of the growing railroad.
